Why Do I Need a Physician of Record in My Workers’ Comp Claim?

A physician of record is an important part of any workers’ compensation claim. This doctor’s primary task is to direct treatment and certify disability in a workers’ compensation claim. To accomplish these tasks, the doctor and his or her staff must be familiar with specific workers’ compensation forms. By completing the right form at the right time, the physician of record can help an injured worker secure necessary diagnostic testing, new allowances in the claim, and disability benefits through the workers’ compensation system.

Regular visits with the physician of record also help keep the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation informed of the status of a particular workers’ compensation claim. So long as the allowed conditions are causing ongoing problems, regular visits with the physician of record are an important part of a recognized claim.
