What Do I Need to Win My SSD/SSI Case?

The most important factor in being approved for disability benefits is consistent medical treatment. The Social Security Administration (SSA) can only approve disability benefits if there is medical documentation that proves your conditions are present and disabling. For example, it is not enough to claim that you cannot work due to back pain. Your medical records must show you have been diagnosed with specific back conditions, and that those conditions cause symptoms so severe they interfere with your ability to work.

The more treatment you have, the better. Regular medical treatment allows your physicians to accurately track the nature of your conditions and provide specific information about your abilities. It also shows the SSA your conditions are severe: without regular treatment, the SSA may believe that your conditions are not as severe as you say they are.

You also should speak with your doctors about your claim for disability benefits. If your doctors are aware that you have filed a disability application, they can provide better information to the SSA. If your doctors are supportive of your claim for benefits, you should ask them to write a statement explaining the severity of your medical conditions.

You also should consider keeping a symptom diary. This can help show the SSA how often you suffer from severe symptoms and how they affect your daily life. For example, if you suffer from severe headaches, you should keep a diary or calendar documenting when your headaches occur, how long they last, how severe they are, any triggers that you can identify, and what you had to do to get them to subside.

There are many other things you can do to help get your application approved as quickly as possible. Contact Herdman Yeager, LLC for a free consultation to discuss your case.
